2. Q. Does the bag have any signs of wear?
A. We disclose all visible wear in the description and provide detailed photos of the bag so you can fully understand the actual condition. If a bag is Vintage, chances are there are signs of wear all over. If you want a bag that is new condition with absolutely no signs of wear Vintage is not for you (Anything pre 2000). From time to time we may get Vintage bags that are like new or mint and these bags will be listed at a higher premium. Pre-loved Newer (Non Vintage) Chanel bags will still exhibit at least some minor signs of wear.
We do not curate bags that have major damages or are in visibly poor condition. We strive to have a strict grading scale so that we do not disappoint our customers, But we do realize that our opinions on condition may differ from you, therefore you should observe all photos to form your own conclusions about a bag’s condition.
It should be noted that minor hardware tarnishing, scratches or the fading of leather over time is what we call Patina, patina is why we love Vintage and all Vintages have their own character! Anyone can walk into a Chanel store and buy a new bag but it takes time and care to find the perfect Vintage bag that is also in good, excellent or pristine condition.
3. Q: Is it Authentic?
A. Yes of course! We only curate Authentic Items. Our Founder and authenticator of every item we list has experience in selling over 700 Authentic Hermes, Chanel, Saint Laurent, Valentino, Louis Vuitton, Goyard, Gucci, Faure le Page, Versace and Rimowa items on Ebay, Tradesy and on this website. We have never had an issue with authenticity. Even though we would never let a non genuine get pass through our authentication process, we still offer a money back guarantee that everything Purse Purveyor sells is 100% Authentic. 4. Q: But it doesn’t have a serial card and/or serial sticker ….I don’t know if it is authentic?
For Hermes Bags:
Hermes bags do not come with serial cards or stickers. Their identification are blind stamps in the forms of letters and numbers. A main letter with or without shape will tell us the year of production. While the other combination of letters and numbers identifies the exact master artisan that single handedly crafted your bag.
For Vintage Chanel bags:
Unfortunately, authenticity cards and serial stickers are not the only things that determine Authenticity. We review the stitching, the CC hardware, the lining, the alignments of the squares, the stitched CC and if the bag meets all the standards for the style. We do also check serial sticker and card. Most fake bags will have a fake authenticity card and serial sticker. Most so called “Super fake” bags’ serial stickers and cards are 97% identical to ones that come with a real Chanel bag. We try our best to curate bags that have serial stickers or serial cards, but it is not always available with Vintages bags that are over 20 years old.
We totally understand that some may only want a Vintage/preloved bag that has a serial card or sticker. But just because a Chanel bag is missing one or both of these things does not mean it is not authentic. It is such a shame when we see someone pass up on a bag that is a great price and in good condition just because it is missing a serial card or a serial sticker, yet the bag is genuine.
We would like to note that Chanel did not assign a serial sticker or card to their bags before 1985. Vintage Chanel’s from before 1985 are rare finds but we do know what style they would be pre 1985 and how to authenticate those bags without any serial numbers. Chanel Spa, the official Chanel bag cleaning and refurbishing service, does not replace the serial sticker when they replace a bag’s lining. Some Chanel bags from 1985-1994 were made with a vinyl lining which deteriorated after a few years and had to be replaced.
More fakes in the market have all the accessories than a real vintage Chanel because the fakes have not been used whereas a real bag has been used and loved. Over time it is normal for a serial card to go missing since it is not attached to the bag and for a serial sticker to lose its stickiness and fall off due to humidity or interaction with the contents inside the bag.
In Conclusion a serial sticker / serial card or box do not define the authenticity of the bag alone and any well trained Chanel expert can authenticate a Chanel bag without them.
